About Josh
I’ll get the formal stuff out of the way first. I received my BS in chemistry from Wheaton College, IL in ‘05. I then received my MS in organic chemistry from Univ. of Chicago in ‘06. During my first year at UC, I served as a TA for the undergrads in Ochem. This consisted of holding weekly discussions, office hours and supervising laboratories. Currently I am working toward a Ph.D. in Prof. Hisashi Yamamoto’s lab at UC where I am researching the oxazaborolidine catalyzed asymmetric Diels-Alder reaction of substituted cyclopentadienes.
If you have nothing else to do, then you can read this. My advice to anyone having a bad day is to go to an emo concert. Don’t buy a fuel efficient, economy-sized car. I prefer the Chevy Caprice, Ford Crown Vic, or a Buick - which are all big and provide safety during an accident. Yngwie Malmsteen does not receive enough credit for his guitar virtuosity. Movies should be seen and not heard. I had a warrant out for my arrest after being falsely accused by a police officer of pulling mattresses with people on them behind my crown vic. I have more to say but come back later…
Is anyone interested in perfume that smells EXACTLY like marijuana. I made a compound the other day that is incredibly pungent- less than a mg and according to everyone you've been smoking. I would like to somehow patent it but I face two obstacles. One is a moral dilemma and the other a legal one. Legally, any discovery I make at UC is the intellectual property of the school and my professor. So if I made money off of this then I could be sued. An example of this happened at Yale (http://pubs.acs.org/cen/news/83/i08/8308notw4.html). Briefly, a chem prof patented a mass-spec technique and sold it to a company in Conn. without the university's knowledge--- important in this case-- he evenutally was sued (counterclaim) for $1 million and lost. Secondly, if a perfume like this were commerically sold-- weed use would get out of control. The thing that stops most people from drug use or just bad behavior in general is fear of punishment. Without a law or accountabilty our view of human beings as generally moral creatures would disappear. Enter my compound... Just as a person with a fettish for drinking buck urine but abstained because the stench might implicate them rejoiced when hunters began toting the smell - so it is with pot smokers. If we can smell like pot just because- then we can smoke it and blame it on the perfume. On marche, on marche-need another idea to make money.
